On The Trail // Pretty Pollinators

Matthew and I went on our first "sort of" hike of Spring yesterday!  I wasn't very prepared and the "no water and mid-80's temps" were a bit much so we ended up cutting it short.  I was hoping to see at least one reptile, but I guess I just wasn't looking in the right places.  We did spot these female Easter Tiger Swallowtails though!  Aren't they beautiful?  I love the coloring and they were SO big!!!

Backyard Adventure // Snails Snails Snails!

I have forever been a huge fan of snails.  They're super slimey, interesting, and cute...all rolled up in a cute little shell.  What's not to love?!  I found these little guys under a bucket lid at my Grandparents house a couple of weekends ago.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Because Spring is probably my favorite season, I decided to share a fun little photoshoot I did with Popcorn!  I kinda wanna start doing these little shoots with all my pets-it's so much fun!  Isn't she cute?!

Say Hello To // Starbucks the Leopard Gecko

In early February, my little brother purchased Starbucks from a vendor at the NARBC show, and has been worried that he hasn't been eating.  At his request, I've taken him under my wing and will be making sure he gets everything he needs to be healthy and happy.  A visit to the Vet may be in his future, but as far as I can tell he seems to be just fine.  I'll keep you updated on any progress and I hope you enjoy the festive photos in the meantime!

At The Park // Crawlies and Footprints

On a recent walk through the park, we discovered a little trail through the woods that we never noticed before!  Once Spring weather starts rolling in, I can typically be found overturning rocks and logs in search of insects, reptiles, and amphibians.

Mineral Collection

Green Fluorite
Matthew recently started collecting minerals!  There is a really amazing shop here in Fort Worth called Crystal Moon Gallery, and we visit it every two or three months.  They've got fossils, minerals, rocks, art, antiques, jewelry, and a ton of other goodies.  We LOVE the place.  The shop owner is very knowledgeable as well, and we learn something new every single time we go in there.  So cool!

On The Trail // Fungi

My mushroom and other fungus identification knowledge is...zilch.  I love coming across them, and I think they're a lot of fun to photograph, but I know next to nothing about them.  Mycology is something I could definitely see myself getting into, and I'd love to be able to identify different species while hiking.

Fort Worth Nature Center // Texture

After a morning full of rain, Matthew and I headed out to the Fort Worth Nature Center which is a short drive from our house.  I was so hopeful that I would be able to find at least ONE reptile.  I turned log after log and rock after rock, but they were all hiding somewhere else I guess.  Hopefully I'll have better luck next time!  I did get tons of photos full of texture though!

Life Lately // 2

Sweet Valentines Goodies // Catching up on some research!
I didn't intend on waiting a whole month to do another Life Lately post, but oh well!  This will be a fun little round up of February :)  Matthew got me a cute little Sonny Angel doll that I've been wanting to start collecting.  Isn't it cute!?  Along with the doll, he also got me a a ginormous Amphibians and Reptiles of Texas book and a big bag of Lush bath goodies.  I've been reading up on that book as well as the Texas Bug Book, both of which are going to be a huge help for knowing and finding my subjects this spring :)
